Banner ads have proven to be a successful technique. These ads are considered by consumers to be fairly unobtrusive, but have a low click rate in many cases. Interstitial ads take a more aggressive approach as they typically involve pop-ups and flashy animation that may be considered annoying by internet users. Interstitial ads tend to be more effective, but may be less attractive to site owners. Both strategies are considered to be effective at building brand recognition even without producing a “click”. The most appropriate method used depends on the product or service being marketed and the anticipated behaviors of the targeted user.
